Angel Foundation for Learning – Believe in Angels Week
in the Toronto Catholic District School Board

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS the Toronto Catholic District School Board celebrates a student focused school system rooted in Gospel Values and a system that proudly advocates a safe and welcoming learning environment offering equal opportunities for all students, it has the opportunity to recognize the significant contributions and assistance provided by The Angel Foundation For Learning to vulnerable students of the TCDSB.

WHEREAS The Angel Foundation for Learning, since its inception in 1987 has assisted over 300,000 students by fostering and nurturing them, keeping communities strong and creating life-altering experiences, it shares the same values of the TCDSB: a community of faith, anchored in hope with heart and charity.

WHEREAS the Foundation provides financial assistance in four areas: support for student nutrition programs, support for education and leadership activities, support for poverty relief and emergency needs and by administering over 18 bursaries, awards and funds, its goal is to ensure that all TCDSB students are equally able to participate in opportunities that sustain and enhance the educational process.

WHEREAS the statistics are alarming with more than 1 out of every 3 children in the City of Toronto living in poverty, the Foundation works diligently to meet its goals and objectives that are also shared with the TCDSB: envisioning students who can pursue academic excellence, display self-esteem and self-respect, demonstrate skills for developing and maintaining personal and family wellness, and demonstrate global perspective and community responsibility.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Associate Director of Education, Academic Affairs, Angela Gauthier, on behalf of the Toronto Catholic District School Board, do hereby proclaim February 8 to 12, 2010 as “The Angel Foundation for Learning – Believe in Angels Week” within the Toronto Catholic District School Board.
