Barry Diemert Music Bursary is awarded to Mary Ward C.S.S. Student
The Angel Foundation for Learning is proud to announce that Jivan Abed-Stephen of Mary Ward C.S.S. is the recipient of the Barry Diemert Music Bursary 2007-2008.
Jivan had been playing French Horn in the Intermediate Band and trombone in the Senior and Stage Band at Mary Ward CSS. His involvement in music is extensive. Jivan has travelled to Europe where he performed in various European countries with the school band, he was part of the Orchestra for last year's production of "Footloose" and is also a vital member of the music program in both composition and performance.
Jivan is also an outstanding leader, serving as an OASIS leader, helping to run assemblies, and acting as peer leader for various orientation days. Jivan has been a role model for younger students and he demonstrates humility and generosity. He is a creative thinker, collaborative contributor to school life and a discerning believer in the Catholic faith community. He is enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at York University. Upon completion, his goal is to share his passion and talent for music with young people.
Administered by The Angel Foundation for Learning, the Barry Diemert Music Bursary is presented annually to a successful graduate of the Toronto Catholic District School Board wishing to pursue music education at a university, college or other post-secondary music school. The bursary provides financial support in the amount of $2,500 towards post-secondary education at the university or college level.
