This award honours the memory of Barb Brodzki a devoted educator of exceptional children. Barb was a master teacher of children and adults. Barb taught a wide variety of classes and was also an Assessment and Programming teacher with TCDSB. She was a member of the Balanced Literacy Team and one of the initiators of the Fifth Block Program. Barb was passionate in her love of children with special needs and providing them with quality literature. This award was conceived to continue her wish for them. Marek Brodzki’s name was added to this award posthumously in recognition of his support for Barb’s dedication and his own interest in literacy.
DESCRIPTION OF AWARD
The Award is administered through The Angel Foundation for Learning. It will be awarded to an elementary school in order to enhance and expand literacy materials for exceptional children in that school. One award of $500 will be given out annually.
This award will be given to an elementary school on an annual basis to purchase literacy materials for exceptional children. The application must include the school’s objectives for the use of the funds, a breakdown of the materials that will be purchased and a rationale of how these specific materials would benefit the literacy needs of exceptional children at the school. The literacy materials must be directly available and accessible to exceptional students (books, media etc).
Any TCDSB elementary school may apply for this award. Selected schools must wait 3 years before applying again. The successful school will be asked to evaluate the benefit of these materials and send a brief report to The Angel Foundation for Learning.
The review committee will be composed of retired members of the TCDSB community.
